Kona Sprayed by Skunk
After a very long and exhausting day with dropping Lindsey off at soccer camp, running errands and doing stuff around the house, I was hoping for a nice relaxing night but instead it was complete chaos. I always let Kona out in the backyard before going to bed, well this time it was much later than normal. It was around 11:30pm when I let him out, I went to close the door and walk away and heard him barking. I thought it was our pet backyard frog that came out and was hanging around on the grass as he does that from time to time, but Kona wouldn't stop barking so then I was getting nervous that maybe someone was in our yard. I decided to turn on our spot lights to get a better look at what he was getting so upset over and then I saw what he was barking at...it was a SKUNK.
So me who is suppose to stay calm goes even crazier as I wasn't sure if he had gotten sprayed yet or not. The skunk was moving towards me and was in between Kona and I and all I could do was yell to get Kona in the house. At this point I was waiting for the neighbors to come out or call the police as I was yelling so loud. I was scared out of my mind. I finally got the skunk to move the other way and grabbed Kona to bring him inside. Once he was inside I got a whiff of him and he stunk so bad I thought I was going to vomit, at this point he was definitely sprayed. I finally got him to the bath tub and did some quick reading on home remedies to get him cleaned off before calling an emergency vet. I washed him over three times and the smell would not go away, finally after five times of using dish soap and baking soda the smell went down but still not gone. I then called the emergency vet to find out if I needed to bring him in as he was sprayed in the face and eyes not sure about his mouth. The lady I spoke with put me on hold and spoke with the on call vet and said that he would be fine as long as I bathed him properly, flushed out his eyes and cleaned his mouth as best as I could. I had done all of those things already so that made me feel a little better. She did tell me to keep an eye on him and make sure his eyes don't get red or have any weird discharge and to see how he is eating and drinking.
So tonight I will be monitoring him to make sure he is okay. He just finished eating and drinking and is now passed out next to me but let me tell you, my house smells so bad I can't stand it. If it weren't the middle of the night I would be lighting scented candles around this place. This is a first for me having to deal with a skunk and my dog being sprayed by one. The lesson I have learned is to not let my dog out so late in the night and to use my spot lights to check for weird animals on our grass before letting the dog out. If anyone else has any other advice or suggestions I'm definitely opening to hearing them.
Now that this craziness has been going on for 1 hour and a half I'm officially wiped out and ready to hit the sack. I'm thinking tonight is going to be a rather long night and just hope my furry baby will be okay.

New Recipe - Chicken Feta Breakfast Egg Cups
Chicken Feta Breakfast Eggs Cups
12 Servings
Ingredients:
1 lb Chicken Garlic Feta Sausage (Whole Foods has the best - about 3 links)
12 Whole Eggs
1 Roma Tomato (chopped)
1 cup Spinach (chopped)
1/2 cup White Northern Beans (canned and rinsed)
Salt and Pepper
Cooking Spray
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degress. Remove outer casing from the chicken sausage and place the links in a pan coded with cooking spray. Break the chicken sausage up into pieces and cook until no longer pink or almost cooked through. Set aside to cool.
2. Take your 12 muffin tray and spray it with a nice coating of cooking spray, this will prevent them from sticking to the pan or you can use silicon muffin cups instead. Evenly divide the cooked chicken sausage into each of the muffin tins.
3. Then top evenly with the tomatoes, spinach and white beans, lastly break one egg into each cup to top all the other ingredients.
4. Sprinkle with salt and pepper
5. Place in the oven for 20 to 25 mins or until the eggs are cooked all the way through. ENJOY!

Banana Chocolate Malt Smoothie
1 frozen Banana
1 to 2 tbsp Chocolate Syrup
3 tbsp Malted Milk Powder
1/2 cup crushed ice
Optional toppings: Coco Whip and Chocolate Syrup
Place everything in a Magic Bullet cup if you have other wise a blender will work too, blend until smooth and creamy. Add a few tablespoons of Coco Whip and Chocolate Syrup to finish it off before serving. Enjoy!!! Serves 1 or 2
It was rather filling for my older daughter so I would say this recipe could be split into 2 servings for kids.

My favorite go-to doTERRA Oils
Ok so I have to confess I'm all about trying to do things naturally, whether it's cooking and eating healthy, reading labels on food boxes or using natural oils instead of medicine but I love drinking liquid chemicals from Starbucks...why is that? I know it's not healthy for me and all the stuff they mix with it is chemicals but it tastes so good, anyway that's for another blog post.
Lavender - Used daily before bed for my family, applied on wrist to help with calming, stress and sun burns.
On-Guard - Used daily before bed for my family, applied on the feet to help with the following: Protective Blend for Common Colds.
I wanted to share my experience with using doTERRA oils and why I love them so much. A friend of my introduced me doTERRA several years ago when I had injured my knee and was going to physical therapy. I have always had knee issues for as long as I can remember and I had tried many products on the market from Icy Hot to Organic products and nothing seemed to work long term for me. So my friend Kara introduced me to a product called Deep Blue, she had provided me all the facts about the product and how it worked so I decided to give it a try. I had used it on and off for a few months during my time doing physical therapy and it seemed to really help with reducing the pain around my knee. It wasn't until I was in full training for my first half Ironman that I noticed how much I loved this stuff. I had used Deep Blue throughout all of my training and absolutely loved it and then I became hooked on the stuff. My family knew when I had a tough training day as they could smell me and my deep blue from my bathroom and bedroom, as for me I loved smelling this stuff it became my daily ritual to use.
I decided at this point to try other oil products they had to offer to replace most of the medicine in our household. I started out with the basic family medicine pack which consisted of a variety of different oils. I used them all but only reordered a few that I used daily and loved. I don't have a lot of the these oils but there are a few that I just love and use all the time. I now have my 5 year old hooked on them, as she uses the Lavender and On Guard every night before bed. As for me I use Deep Blue, Lavender, On Guard and Frankincense daily. Here are my top choices:

I'm always about trying something new especially if it's all natural and good for my family's health. It's an awesome product worth trying!!!
