DIY Kitchen Flower Center Piece for under $25

I have been trying to find a nice center piece for our kitchen table, it's been rather challenging so I decided to be creative and make my own.  I found a beautiful rectangle basket at Hobbly Lobby that matched the same one as my fall basket so I bought it in two different sizes.  The basket was 50% off, regular price was $11.99 which means I only paid $5.99 for it.  Then I bought the green form for inside the basket to stick the flowers in and the brown ribbon to use for inside and around the outside of the basket to add a little swag to it.  Both of those items were also 50% off...love finding a good bargain especially on small projects.  I did look at the flowers at Hobbly Lobby however they were not on sale and not worth paying full price for what I wanted so I decided to go to Dollar Tree instead and see what they had.  I found a bunch of white floral arrangements along with some colored flowers that I thought would like to nice together, at a $1 a piece I couldn't go wrong so I bought a bunch of them.
Once I got home I placed everything on the table and then started piecing it all together, I first started by cutting the green foam pieces to have them fit exactly in the basket, then I starting placing the flowers in a few at a time to see what I liked, once the flowers were placed I then took the ribbon and starting intertwining them in the flowers and along the edge to complete my center piece.  The whole project cost me just under $25.00 and took about 10 to 15 minutes of my time.

I love how it turned out, it was very easy to make and the nice part is I can change out the flowers anytime I want.  I will continue to keep an eye out at Hobbly Lobby but for now it will work.  Happy Crafting!!!

Lindsey's Ankle Injury Update

Air cast and Crutches
My poor baby girl was in gymnastic having fun when she landed the wrong way, we figured it was just a little sore and that she would be back on the mats before practice was over, well it wasn't getting any better and she had to sit out the rest of the time.  We took her home and even before we walked into the house it had swelled up like a softball, so we had her elevate it and put ice on it to help with the swelling.  After 30 minutes it was not helping and we decided to take her to a Children's Urgent Care to get it looked at.

We arrived and checked in around 6:30pm after waiting for about 45 minutes, we finally saw the doctor who looked it and said it was more then likely sprained and not broken but we wanted x-ray's done to make sure.  The x-ray's didn't show any fractures but it was going to be sent off to a radiologist to confirm.  At this point the doctor said she needed to wear an air cast and have crutches for at least 7 to 10 day's with a follow up to see our pediatric doctor.  After being there about two hours we finally finished up and went home.

Two weeks ago, swollen and sore.
The first two nights were very long as our poor baby was in so much pain, she wasn't able to sleep or move around without her foot bothering her.  We iced and elevated when we could.  We had our first follow up appointment last Thursday with our pediatric doctor, she informed us that she wanted Lindsey to stay in the air cast for at least another week and using her crutches during school.  No physical activities including soccer, gymnastics or PE for at least 10 day's and wanted her to come back this week for another follow up to see how she was doing.

Took her in today for another follow up to see the doctor and this time the bruising on her foot was really bad and still swollen which was a good thing, it meant that her foot was finally healing.  She was able to move her foot and ankle much better during today's visit and is now starting to walk around with just her air cast on it.  The doctor still wants her in the air cast for another two weeks with no soccer, gymnastics or PE until it's 100%.  Even after the air cast comes off, she will need to be in an athletic brace to help support her ankle while doing sports for another 4 weeks after that.  The doctor said it was not broken but it was a very bad sprain that almost turned to a broken foot, so thank goodness it wasn't broken.  We have another follow up in two more weeks, we are hoping to get the green light that she will almost be back to normal and ready to get back on the field to play soccer.
This is how it looks today.

We should have just stuck to soccer...hahaha.  Lindsey is very sad as she will be missing her first two games with her new team, she has been so excited to play and then gets hurt so it only makes it worse.  We will be working on her daily exercise and using DoTerra Deep Blue to help heal her back to normal.

I will post her next update on my blog when we see the doctor in a few weeks.

Reusing Old Candle Jars

I absolutely love candles especially Gold Canyon Candles, I use them all year round and in all different sizes.  My wonderful consultants Deonna gave me the idea of cleaning them out to keep and reuse by saving them for things around the house.  I just finished using up one of my big jar's from a fall scent I had.  After discarding any leftover wax, I then put hot soapy water in it and let it sit overnight.  The next day I take a Mr. Clean cleaning sponge and wipe the entire jar out, it works so well especially with all the black on the top, it comes right off.  For this jar I decided to reuse it for my Epson Salts and displayed it next to my bath tub.  I now have a nice little spa set up with towels, Lavender Sugar Scrub, Lavender Fizz Ball, Epson Salt and a Lemon Scented Candle.

I also had a small jar that I have been keeping but had not decided what to use it for.  I use to have a jar for Q-Tips but it broke, so what better way to use my small jar as Q-Tips are small and fit perfectly in it.  It can be used with a lid or without it and it didn't cost me anything extra.

I don't keep too many things but I do keep these jars as they are wonderful to reuse for the house or gifts.  Happy Home Decorating.

Super Bowl LI History in the Making

Whether you like football or not the Super Bowl is one of the most watched sporting events then any other.  It's a day of yummy food, drinks, spending time with family and friends and enjoying the commercials, half time show and players.  We absolutely love watching football in our house, it's a Sunday ritual for us.  We are huge Dallas Cowboys fans, so you imagine how heartbroken we were when we didn't make it to the Super Bowl this year.

Like all Super Bowl parties everyone loves to eat and drink and have a great time.  Yesterday was rather low key for us which is unusual, since we moved away from family this was our first year on our own and we decided to just stay in as a family.  I still went overboard on food like I always do, but I just love cooking and eating during football.  Here was my menu from yesterday - Veggie Tray, my famous Vegetarian Bean Dip, BBQ Chicken Wings, Hot Chicken Philly Cheesesteak Dip, Irresistible Baked 3 Cheese Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Chips with Corn Salsa and Regular Salsa and baked a batch of Amazing Flour-less Brownies.  This was for only 4 of us but it all turned out amazing and the best part is we have leftovers which I will use for tonight's dinner so I don't have to cook and waste food.

Now lets get to the good stuff like the amazing half time show and football game.  Lady Gaga put on quite a show, many people had very high expectations for her as we all know how she loves to entertain and she did just that.  I was so impressed with all that she did from flying into the stadium to dancing on towers and performing on the biggest stage anyone could ever ask for.  I loved that she played many of her popular songs but then brought it down to playing one of her new songs with a softer touch.  She truly is an amazing artist and did us all proud.  My girls loved watching her and even sang along to all her songs.  Way to go Lady Gaga!!!

Then there was the football game, since we are Dallas Cowboy fans it's only natural that we would cheer for the NFC team which was for the Atlanta Falcons as it had been 51 years since winning a Super Bowl, however I thought it would be cool to see Tom Brady win his 5th Super Bowl ring, either way this game was a history in the making.  I have to say the first half was a complete blow out and rather disappointing as I thought it was be a much closer game but I knew it wasn't over as Brady is a fighter and does what he does best by bouncing back, so the second half I thought would be much better especially with what was a steak for him and the New England Patriots.  Then it happen, the old Patriot team stepped it up and starting making some amazing plays which gave them yet another final win in the Super Bowl.  I felt so bad for the Matt Ryan and the Falcons and they worked so hard to get a huge lead and then lost it in the end, that is a very tough pill to swallow and a complete heartbreak.  The good news is that they are a very young team and will back in the fight next year.  After the game we watched a few minutes of the award ceremony as I wanted to see the best all time QB Brady and best all time Coach Belichick receive the Lombardi Trophy for the 5th time, which would now go in history.  Again I'm not at all a patriots fan but to watch history being made and to see how hard they worked to get that victory no one can take that away from them.  I was also very happy for Howie Long as this was his son's first Super Bowl win and both him and his wife were there to witness that, what an amazing feeling that must have been as parents.  All I can say is congratulations to New England!  Now next year we need to get some new blood in the stadium to battle it out in yet another fantastic Super Bowl.

Vegetarian Bean Dip Recipe:

1 can Vegetarian Refried Beans
1 cup Salsa (mild or medium)
16 oz Light Sour Cream
1 pgk of Low Sodium Taco Seasoning (or make you own which is what I used for this)
2 to 3 green onions - chopped
3 Roma tomatoes - chopped
2 cups Mexican Shredded Cheese

1. Open canned refried beans and place in a 8x8 square pan, mix it with 1 cup of the salsa until well blended.  Spread the mixture out on the bottom of the pan to cover the whole thing, that is layer one.
2. In a mixing bowl mix sour cream and taco seasoning together until well blended.  Then take that mixture and spread it on top of the bean mixture for the next layer.
3. Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of the mexican cheese on top of the sour cream and taco mix until all of it has been covered.
4.  Add the chopped tomatoes and green onions as the top layer and then take the other 1/2 cup  of cheese and sprinkle that on top to finish it off or it can be left off.
5. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours and then serve with fresh veggies or your favorite tortilla chips.

Option: Guacamole can also be added a layer, between the bean/salsa and sour cream/taco mixture.  Since most of my family does not like guacamole I usually leave it out.

It's time for change.....let the training begin!

It's been a while since I have actually trained for anything but I think it's time to start setting goals and focus on something for me.  As busy as life gets and as stressful as times can be, I feel much better when I'm able to workout and see results in my weight loss journey.  Since I have stopped training I have gain a lot of my old weight back and I'm feeling tired, gross and just out of shape.  I don't have an actual race in mind but I figure this is a good starting point for me, as we get closer to summer and my training progresses I will look at a race to see what races are available to complete a half marathon.  Here is the link for this training plan along with many others interested in running - http://www.halfmarathons.net/half-marathon-training-schedule-for-beginning-runners/

Rest Days

Especially for beginning runners or those who may be experienced at running but training for their first half marathon, it’s important to take two days off from running during the week to allow your joints and muscles adequate time to rest.
I’ve always taken two days off during the week, on Mondays and Fridays, as that allows a day off after your long run as well as a day off after your three mid-week running days.

Water

On your weekend long runs, make sure to bring plenty of water to drink after your run and during your run. It’s important especially when your long runs start reaching distances of seven, eight and nine miles or longer, to have water at the mid-point of your long run as well as at the end.

Sports drinks such as Gatorade or Powerade are fine as well, but you can’t go wrong with water. Also, this will get your body accustomed to what your race conditions will be like, when you’ll be able to have water most likely at every two miles in the race.

Birthday Celebration

Happy 5th Birthday Sweet Kaitlyn!

Yesterday was our little one's 5th birthday, it was a big day for her.  The night before my older daughter and I were up pretty late decorating the house for the princesses special day.  Her favorite color is purple, so I went to Dollar Tree and picked up a bunch of purple items like a table cloth, balloon holders, Frozen Happy Birthday Banner, Frozen plates and napkins, two small balloons filled with air, princess birthday sash, streamers, bows and wrapping paper.  The whole set up cost under $20 and it came out perfect.

We had a low key morning as I knew the rest of the day would be long, plus my little one went to bed rather late so we did some relaxing in the morning.  Then I went and met her for lunch at school with her class so I could spend some quality time with her.  She loved having me tag along for lunch.  It was so special and something I will always remember, it's times like these that remind me of how fast they grown up, which I will never get back.  I enjoy every moment I can with both my girls.  After school both girls arrived home, we left for the airport to pick up my husband as he was out of town on business all week.  It was nice to have him home especially on a special day like today.  My daughters request was pizza at home and opening presents as she had been waiting all day.  So we went and picked up Jet's Pizza, which by the way is amazing.

When we got home the princess got to finally open her presents, she was so excited with each gift she opened and loved everything she got.  We then ate our pizza as everyone was starving, it was super yummy as usual.  After dinner she wanted to try out her new purple razor scooter she got, we all had to bundle up as it was a cold day here in Texas.  Both girls went and rode around on their scooters for a bit while my husband and I froze but it was so fun to see them laughing and having a good time.  This scooter is way more advanced then her old one so she had a few falls but loved riding around on a big girl scooter.  About 20 mins being in the cold we called it quites as it was freezing and starting to get dark, it was time to bring the fun back into the house so we could all warm up.  The girls decided they wanted to try indoor bowling with her new frozen bowling set, my husband (the pin guy) set up the pins down the hallway so the girls had an ally way to bowl.  I did my first Facebook Live video of the birthday girl bowling, it was hilarious as she was throwing the ball more then rolling it....I think it was a new game called air bowling as our friend Cindy mentioned in one of the comments.  Finally after several tries and hitting daddy she knocked all the pins down and got a strike, it was so fun to watch her and the excitement.

Then it was time for the surprise purple birthday cake that came out amazing, I bought it Market Street, they were wonderful and very helpful.  I had it specially ordered with her favorite colors to go with the theme of the rest of the purple stuff she had.  Last part of the evening was looking back at old family photo's of Kaitlyn when she was born and as she was growing up, it was very special to see those memories and how much she has changed since being a baby.  Thank you daddy for getting it all set up for us to watch as a family.

Overall it was a wonderful day, she was extremely happy with everything and enjoyed every moment.  We are so thankful to have two amazing girls who we absolutely adorable and love.  Happy 5th Birthday Sweet Baby Kaitlyn!!!!
